Meet Our Irish Alpha Youth Team
National Youth COordinator- Amanda O’Shea
Amanda lives in Dublin with her husband George where they foster two children, Ava and Adam.
She brings over 20 years of experience in youth and family ministry to our Alpha team. At 19 years old she pioneered an urban ministry in Atlanta, GA, USA. Amanda moved to Jackson, Mississippi six years later where she served as a Youth Pastor. In 2007 Amanda moved to Dublin, Ireland to serve as a Youth and Children’s Minister. For the past ten years she has also led teams to run Alpha-Youth in local secondary schools. Amanda holds a degree in Youth, Children and Family Ministry.
Loves books, snow-skiing, hiking and theatre.
Midlands Coordinator - Annette Evans
Annette lives in Tullamore with two of her four children, Sian, Josh, Mark and Jonathan. Annette joined the Alpha Ireland team in January 2014 as the Midlands Alpha Youth Regional Coordinator. Prior to that she volunteered for three years with Alpha Youth in her parish. Annette also runs prayer spaces in conjunction with Alpha Youth Holy Spirit Days. She is currently studying for a BA in Theology.
Annette is actively involved with youth in her parish, leading a weekly youth group and managing youth worship band.
Cork Coordinator - Theresa Cronin
Theresa lives in Cork with her husband Tim and their five children Charlie, Simon, Grace, Barry & Mark.
Theresa has worked as a teacher of History and RE at second level for many years and has been actively involved in running Alpha in her parish for the past 10 years. In 2016 Theresa joined the Alpha Ireland team as the Cork Alpha Youth Regional Coordinator.
She has a heart and passion to see all people, especially young people, come into a living, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
She also loves to chat, cook and play lots of tennis!
Cork Coordinator - Deirdre Lightbody
Deirdre lives in Cork with her husband Gordon and two grown-up children, Miryam and Dominic having moved from Belfast in 1997.
She worked as a PA in Belfast until she came to Cork and settled down as a stay-at-home mum. She has been volunteering with Alpha for adults in various settings since 2000 and Alpha Youth since 2016.
She loves reading, movies, walking, pilates and Strictly Come Dancing's fitness programme.
East Coast Coordinator - Shannen Greenhalgh
Shannen lives in Dublin with her family and dog. She has recently graduated with a degree in Social and Community Development and hopes to use this along with her experience and passion to create a space through Alpha for young people to meet with God.
She enjoys walking her dog on Portmarnock beach, visiting Howth (her favourite place), browsing Dublin markets, finding cute spots to eat and loves to travel any chance she can get!
Mission Team (East Coast) - Beth Gilroy
This is Beth Giltoy. She was born in London but grew up in Belfast in Northern Ireland. One of her favourite places in the world is Australia as she spent 3 years in Sydney, Australia when 18 doing mission work. At 23 she did a degree in Adult Nursing in Belfast and then worked for 3 and a half years as a nurse in London and Dublin.
Beth got married on the 30/12/2017 in Belfast to her husband, James. Her favourite food in the world are giant supermarket cookies (Lidl do the best). She has always loved youth work and made the decision this year to take a break from nursing and work with youth for the year.
Mission Team (Midlands) - Liam Burke
Liam is from Kilkenny but has lived in Mullingar for the past two years. Along with working with work for Alpha he works for Youth for Christ Ireland who are based in Mullingar. He became involved with Alpha when he was an intern with YFC in 2016 helping run Alpha Youth in a school, he's so grateful for the opportunities he gets to tell young people about Jesus through Alpha.
His passion is to see young people meet with Jesus in an incredibly personal way. He also loves good coffee and most importantly good food.
Mission Team (Cork) - Miryam Lightbody
Miryam recently graduated with a degree in Applied Psychology from University College Cork.
Miryam has a heart for creative evangelism. She served as the Evangelism Officer for the UCC Christian Union for two years, running a tea and coffee stand on campus every week and also other creative events like hosting testimony nights and curating a Christian art installation.
Miryam serves as one of the leaders of her church's Young Adults ministry and has a heart to create spaces that show both young people and teenagers where they belong in the family of God.
In August, 2018 Miryam joined Alpha as the Cork Mission Team worker. She is passionate about the atmosphere that Alpha creates and loves making prayer spaces and sharing her testimony.
Fun fact: in her spare time Miryam journals her way through an average of one A5 notebook per month.
